⭐️One of the Most Beautiful Crochet Patterns‼️How to Make a Hexagon Motif

🧶 MATERIALS

✔ Yarn — light to medium weight (cotton or acrylic works well)
✔ Crochet hook — sized to match your yarn (e.g., 3.0 mm–4.5 mm)
✔ Scissors
✔ Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)
✔ Optional: stitch markers

🟡 ROUND 1 — START WITH A CENTER CIRCLE

  1. Make a magic ring (also called adjustable loop).
This lets you tighten the center later so there’s no hole.
(If you prefer: ch 4 and sl st to make a closed loop.)
  2. Ch 3 (this counts as your first double-crochet (dc) for the round).
The ch-3 always counts as a dc unless otherwise stated.
  3. Dc 11 into the magic ring. ▶ You should now have 12 dc including that beginning ch-3.
  4. Pull the tail of the magic ring to tightly close the center.
  5. Join with a sl st into the top of the beginning ch-3.

✔ End of Round 1 — a small round of dc stitches forms the center circle.

🟢 ROUND 2 — BUILD CORNERS & SIDES

In a hexagon motif, each hexagon has six sides and six corners. To shape this correctly, we’ll use dc and chain spaces to make room for increases on each corner.

  1. Ch 3 (counts as first dc).
  2. Dc in same stitch as joining.
  3. Ch 2 (creates a corner space).
  4. Dc in each of the next 1–2 stitches from Round 1 — this becomes the first side of the hexagon.
  5. Ch 2, 2 dc into the same corner space — this builds a second corner.
  6. Dc in each of next 2 stitches — continue the side.
  7. Continue this sequence around:
    • 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in each of the six corner spaces
    • Dc in each regular stitch between corners
  8. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch-3.

✔ End of Round 2 — you now have a small hexagon shape formed.

🔵 ROUND 3 — EXPANDING THE HEXAGON

This round expands each side while keeping six corners.

  1. Ch 3 (counts as dc).
  2. Dc in next stitches (following your motif base) until you reach a corner space.
  3. In each corner space:
    • 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc — this preserves the hexagon shape.
  4. Continue working dc stitches along each side between corners.
  5. Join with sl st to beginning ch-3.

✔ Each repeat adds one more dc between corners on all six sides.

🟡 ROUND 4 — EVEN MORE GROWTH

Repeat exactly what you did in Round 3:

  1. Ch 3 (counts as dc).
  2. Dc across the side stitches until corner.
  3. At corner: 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc.
  4. Dc all the way around, growing the hexagon outward evenly.
  5. Join with sl st.

✔ Now your hexagon is larger and flatter, with smooth sides and pronounced corners.

Continue this same pattern for additional rounds if you want a bigger hexagon.
Each round adds more stitches along each side between corners while keeping 2-dc + ch-2 + 2-dc at each corner.

🟣 OPTIONAL TEXTURE OR LACE ROUNDS

If you want your hexagon to have eyelets, lace, or decorative texture (like many Crochet with Nese motifs), you can insert special rounds before the final border. Examples include:

🌿 Lace Round (Example)

  • Ch 1, sc across side
  • Chain 3 at intervals for airy spaces
  • Repeat around each side and corner

⚠ Add lace rounds only if you’re comfortable — intermediate crocheters can adjust spacing for aesthetic effect.

✨ FINISHING THE MOTIF

Picot or Decorative Edge (optional)

  1. Ch 1, sc evenly around edge.
  2. Ch 3, sl st back into 1st ch to form a picot.
  3. Continue picots spaced evenly on each side and corner.

This gives a pretty, finished edge ideal for joining motifs later.

🧵 WEAVING IN ENDS & BLOCKING

  • Use a tapestry needle to weave in all loose yarn ends on the back.
  • Blocking:
Gently dampen the hexagon motif and pin it out to exact shape on a blocking mat.
This makes the sides flat and opens up lace details.

🪡 JOINING MULTIPLE HEXAGONS

To assemble a larger piece (like a runner, shawl, blouse, blanket, or decorative panel):

👇 Joining Methods

Whip stitch — sew motifs together with tapestry needle for smooth seams
Slip-stitch join — crochet motifs together from the front or back as you make the last round
Join-as-you-go — connect motifs while crocheting the final round

⚠ Aim to match edges so your motifs interlock neatly.

🧠 TIPS FOR BEAUTIFUL RESULTS

✔ Keep consistent tension — this ensures a flat, even motif.
✔ Use contrasting yarn colors for each round for a vibrant hexagon look.
✔ For collars or garment panels, map motif layout before joining.
✔ Practice a small number of rounds first to get a feel for stitch increases.
