🩵Magnificent Crochet Triangle Shawl, Bolero🩵 How to Make This Unique Design

🧶 Materials

  • Medium/lightweight yarn (soft drape yarn recommended)
  • Crochet hook (approx. 3.5–4.5 mm)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

🟦 PART 1: Foundation (Beginning Motif)

Step 1: Start chain

  • Make ch 6
  • Join with sl st to form a ring

Step 2: First round (inside ring)

  • Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc)
  • Work 11 dc into the ring
  • Join with sl st to top of ch 3

👉 Total: 12 dc circle

🟦 PART 2: Turning Circle into Triangle

Step 3: Create triangle split

  • Ch 4 (counts as tr)
  • Work 1 tr in same stitch
  • Skip 2 stitches
  • Work 2 tr in next stitch
  • Repeat until last stitch

👉 You now form clusters of treble stitches

Step 4: Form center point

  • In the middle section:
    • Work (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) into one space

👉 This becomes the triangle tip (center spine)
This is repeated EVERY ROW.

🟦 PART 3: Main Pattern (Repeating Lace Design)

The shawl grows using:

  • Treble crochet (tr) clusters
  • Chain spaces
  • Center increase (very important)

Step 5: Row repeat structure

Each row follows this structure:

Beginning edge:

  • Ch 4
  • 1 tr in same stitch (increase)

Pattern across:

Repeat:

  • Skip space
  • Work 2 tr in next space

Center (ALWAYS THIS):

  • In center space:
    • 2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr

Continue other side:

  • Mirror same pattern:
    • 2 tr in each space

Ending edge:

  • Work 2 tr in last stitch

👉 This creates:

  • Clean edges
  • Balanced triangle growth

🟦 PART 4: Texture & Visual Pattern

In the video, the design creates:

  • Vertical lace lines
  • Slight fan/shell effect
  • Light, airy fabric

👉 This comes from:

  • Repeating 2 treble clusters
  • Skipping spaces between them

🟦 PART 5: Row-by-Row Logic (VERY IMPORTANT)

Every row:
✔ Increase at start
✔ Repeat 2 tr pattern
✔ Increase at center (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr)
✔ Mirror on other side
✔ Increase at end

👉 This is why it becomes a perfect triangle.

🟦 PART 6: Growing the Shawl

  • Keep repeating rows
  • The triangle gets wider and longer
  • The lace pattern becomes more visible

💡 In the video, the shawl grows quite large for dual use:

  • Shawl
  • Bolero

🟦 PART 7: Turning into Bolero

As shown in the video:

Method:

  1. Fold triangle around shoulders
  2. Bring sides forward
  3. Join/sew small sections under arms

👉 Creates sleeves effect

🟦 PART 8: Edge Finishing

Simple border:

  • Work sc evenly around

OR

Decorative edge:

  • (sc, ch 3, sc) in same stitch → skip → repeat

👉 Gives a delicate lace finish

🟦 PART 9: Final Step

  • Fasten off
  • Weave in ends
  • Light blocking (optional but recommended)

❤️ Key Things From THIS Video (Important Differences)

✔ Uses treble crochet (not dc-based shawl)
✔ Pattern is cluster-based (2 tr groups)
✔ Center uses ch 2 space (not ch 1)
✔ Very airy, open lace structure
✔ Designed to easily convert into bolero

💡 Simple Summary

  1. Make ring → 12 dc
  2. Switch to treble clusters
  3. Always increase at center
  4. Repeat 2 tr pattern across
  5. Grow triangle
  6. Add border
  7. Wear as shawl or bolero
